Sailing with Purpose: Arved Fuchs Embarks on Ocean Change Expedition 2025
Sailor Arved Fuchs to Embark on 'Ocean Change' Platform in 2025 - Arved Fuchs is set to perform at the 2025 Ocean Change Event
Hellooo! It's time to set sail with polar explorer and author, Arved Fuchs, as he embarks on another mission with his "Ocean Change" series. On Sunday, Fuchs and his crew hoisted the anchor on their historic sailing vessel "Dagmar Aaen" from the port of Flensburg. This voyage is all about tackling the impacts of climate change and advocating for marine protection.
With ten years of hard work behind him, Fuchs shared his excitement with the German Press Agency before they set off. "The two are closely intertwined," he said, emphasizing the importance of an interdisciplinary approach. This leg of the journey will take them through the eastern Baltic Sea, the North Sea, and the eastern Atlantic, with various stops along the way.
The route runs through Stralsund, Greifswald, Swinoujscie (Poland), Klaipeda (Lithuania), Riga (Latvia), Gotland (Sweden), and a visit to the island of Föhr is planned. From there, they'll sail through the English Channel towards Brittany and Cornwall into the eastern Atlantic, with a return to the home port of Flensburg scheduled for late August, weather permitting.
Collection and Sharing of Crucial Data
The "Dagmar Aaen" isn't just a seafaring vessel; it's also a data-collecting machine! Fuchs explained that this ship can gather data in areas where research ships are scarce, thus complementing their work. Thanks to smart measurement technology, the crew can analyze and publish data from their voyages.

- This year's expedition is split into two main sea areas: the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, merged with the eastern Atlantic Ocean.
- Highlights of the journey include the "Waalem Polar Seminar" on Föhr, featuring discussions with various international stakeholders.
- The "Dagmar Aaen" has been Arved Fuchs' steadfast companion for over 300,000 nautical miles of polar voyages.
- Fuchs collaborates with the "Sailing for Oxygen" project, encouraging sailors to contribute to marine data collection using a camera to monitor seawater color.
- The expedition partners with the EyeOnWater app, enabling citizens to report water color data for global marine research.
- The voyage collaborates with institutions like GEOMAR, Trans-Ocean e.V., and more, to gather data and raise awareness about marine conservation.
- The expedition shares data live on the BELUGA-Expeditionsplattform, hosts a podcast for interviews, and keeps everyone updated with a crew logbook.
- Arved Fuchs emphasized that the interdisciplinary approach is crucial for tackling climate change and marine protection as he embarked on the Ocean Change expedition 2025, addressing topics such as climate change and marine protection in EC countries.
- Additionally, as Fuchs and his crew sail through the North Sea, Baltic Sea, and eastern Atlantic, they will collect and share data to contribute to scientific research in areas like environmental-science, health-and-wellness, and climate-change, aligning with the goals of the Ocean Change project.
