Benalmadena Rallies for 14-Year-Old Leonor's Brain Tumour Treatment
The community of Benalmadena is rallying around 14-year-old Leonor, who has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Businesses are pledging proceeds and donations, with an event and crowdfunding campaign launched to raise funds for her treatment.
Leonor's journey began in October 2024 when she started experiencing dizziness, vision problems, and difficulty finding words. After thorough examinations, doctors from three hospitals diagnosed her with an astrocytoma, a type of brain tumour with an IDH1 mutation, located deep in the corpus callosum. Despite the severity, doctors advised a 'wait and see' approach, but the tumour is spreading into healthy tissue.
A glimmer of hope comes from a promising WHO-approved vaccine treatment available in Germany and Switzerland. However, it comes at a cost of €40,000. Leonor's family has already raised €12,000, but they still need €28,000 to make the treatment a reality.
To support Leonor, the community has come together. An event called 'Sí a la Vida para Leonor' will take place on October 24 to gather contributions. Additionally, El Vuelo de las Libelulas, a local association, has launched a crowdfunding campaign. Donations can be made via Bizum to 08672 (concept: 'Leonor') or bank transfer to ES82 0128 0785 8901 0005 4781 (concept: 'Leo' followed by your nickname).
The Benalmadena community is determined to help Leonor access the life-saving treatment she deserves. With €28,000 still needed, every contribution brings her one step closer to hope. The 'Sí a la Vida para Leonor' event and crowdfunding campaign offer opportunities for everyone to show their support.
