Bremen introduces a novel venture aimed at addressing the deficit of competent nurses

In an ambitious initiative to address the staffing shortage in care facilities, the first round of an orientation course is set to commence on October 21, 2022, in Bremen-Nord. This course is the first of five planned runs, with the second round scheduled for January/February 2025 in Bremen-Osterholz.

The Paritätisches Bildungswerk Bremen is responsible for the coordination and implementation of this course, which is designed to relieve existing staff in care facilities and bring urgently needed workers into the sector. The course caters to around 20 participants, with a focus on unemployed people in Bremen-Nord, especially women, and people from disadvantaged neighborhoods.

The orientation course offers a comprehensive programme, including training, practical days with employers, specialist language promotion, coaching, a job exchange, and job interviews. It's worth noting that while the course does not require formal qualifications, it assumes a minimum German level of A2. An interest in an activity in care or in professions in the broader field of care, such as household or kitchen, is required.

The course is carried out in partnership with local employers and is embedded in existing projects of various partners including Diakonie, Heimstiftung, Paritätischen Pflegedienste, AWO, Caritas, Friedehorst, Specht Group, Eggestorf Foundation, New Care, Federal Association of Private Providers of Social Services, State Association of the Free Welfare Association Bremen, Senate Chancellery, and Senate authorities for work and health.

The goal of the course is to conclude a socially insured employment. With six million euros available for the project until mid-2025, the initiative is part of the "Paths to Employment" project, funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Senator for Work, Social Affairs, Youth and Integration.

While specific details about the "new neighborhood-based care personnel recruitment approach in Bremen-Nord" could not be found, similar initiatives typically aim to recruit care personnel from within or close to the community to improve local care delivery. These orientation courses usually focus on introducing recruits to community-specific care needs and resources, training on skills necessary for neighborhood care and collaboration, and familiarizing new personnel with organizational procedures and expectations.

For up-to-date and specific details, it's recommended to consult official Bremen social or healthcare department publications or local Bremen-Nord community care organizations.
