Red Cross to Expand Health Center in Nabburg

The Red Cross chapter in Nabburg is set to expand the health center, following the district council's support for the plan. The expansion, under the working title "Health and Senior Center", will take place in the former district hospital.

Initially, the Red Cross had planned to rent a floor in the hospital, but this proved unsuccessful due to lack of economic viability. Instead, they are now planning to buy the property from the Asklepios chain in the first half of 2023 at a symbolic price.

The expanded health center will provide between 60 to 70 care places, with a focus on dementia patients. The Red Cross' takeover of the entire property was an option, and they are also considering structural measures to convert a second floor for care purposes in the second phase of the expansion.

The Red Cross' takeover of the nursing station "Haus St. Johannes" with approximately 30 residents is also part of the plan. This will allow them to utilize its capacity of 40 places, and they have guaranteed the 18 employees of the facility.

The Red Cross envisions synergy effects with the "Arche Noah" in Nabburg for the kitchen operations. However, their facilities will be limited to two floors in the former hospital.

It's worth noting that the offers in dementia care would not only be limited to closed groups but could also be provided in an open form. The district administrator, Thomas Ebeling, sees preventing the possible repayment of funding as a key point, as he indicated this summer that the care facility operated together with "SeniVita" is not considered the core business, making a sale possible.

An agreement between the Red Cross and Asklepios is close, with a great willingness to compromise from Asklepios. The Red Cross plans to double the number of employees in the second phase of the expansion, but specific details about this aspect are not yet available.

As always, it's recommended to consult local news sources, press releases, or official statements from the Nabburg Health Center or the Red Cross for the latest and most reliable information on these specific plans.
