Drosten in the Hot Seat: BSW Seeks Transparency Over Pandemic Decisions

Researchers Urge Transparency on COVID-19 Decisions by Drosten - BSW seeks clarification on COVID-19 decision-making processes

Answer the burning questions about the corona pandemic decisions - that's what the Alliance for Progress (BSW) wants from Professor Christian Drosten. The distinguished virologist will face questions as an expert witness in the Saxon Parliament's investigation committee on March 31st.

Citizens have the right to know which measures proved helpful and which ones may have been less effective, says BSW committee member Ines Biebrach. As one of the government's key advisors, she expects Drosten to deliver clear answers about the evidence backing the recommendations and whether there were instances of misperception throughout the pandemic.

"Let's shine a light on where science had solid evidence and where politics relied on uncertain data," adds Biebrach's peer Jens Hentschel-Thöricht. Moving forward, identifying potential errors and their consequences, particularly for our youth, should not be ignored.

"By the end of this hearing, we need to evaluate what worked and what didn't," Biebrach concludes. Drosten's appearance before the committee forms a crucial part of this clarification process.

Launched by the AfD faction, the Investigation Committee aims to scrutinize the Saxon government's handling of the coronavirus from 2019 to 2024. Since the pandemic's onset in Saxony in March 2020, approximately 17,750 people have lost their lives due to Covid-19, according to the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Evidently, Drosten, a top virologist and Director of the Institute of Virology at Charité in Berlin, has been a central figure in the ongoing conversation about how best to tackle the pandemic. Transparency and accountability are key to ensuring the public has faith in the decisions made during this crisis.
