"Charley Hull Describes Close Call at Evian Championship: Narrowly Avoided Fall onto Hard Concrete After Being Stopped by Security and Medic"
Charley Hull Battles Through Virus, Collapses at Evian Championship
Charley Hull, a promising young golfer, faced a tough challenge during the Evian Championship in France earlier this month. Hull was struck by a debilitating virus that left her feeling unwell for the entire week, causing her to collapse twice on the 4th tee.
The virus brought on severe symptoms such as nausea, exhaustion, body aches, high fever, dizziness, and cold sweats. Despite feeling extremely unwell and dizzy, Hull continued to play, but her condition worsened, leading to her collapse. She was stretchered off the course and was forced to withdraw from the tournament for medical attention.
Hull's blood pressure was reportedly 80/50 and her blood sugar was 0.4, indicating a severe state of illness. She was taken to a hospital for treatment and rest.
Two weeks later, Hull returned to competition at the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open. While she felt around 80% better, she admitted that she was still not fully recovered from the virus. She described ongoing tiredness and lingering symptoms such as aches and dizziness but was improving following medical treatment and rest.
Despite her ongoing recovery, Hull has shown resilience and determination. She has a practice round and tee time at the AIG Women's Open at Royal Porthcawl next week, where she will be playing alongside Lottie Woad. Hull expressed admiration for Woad's dedication and love for golf and does not believe she has much advice to give to the newly-professional wunderkind, encouraging her to continue doing what she's been doing.
Hull and Woad share the same putting coach, adding an interesting dynamic to their pairing at the AIG Women's Open. It will be exciting to see how they fare on the course and if Hull's health continues to improve as she competes.
