Chinatown community honors Lunar New Year festivities

Chinatown hosts inaugural bilingual Parkinson support group meeting for Lunar New Year

The Chinatown Bilingual Parkinson Support Group commenced its yearly gatherings on February 7, marking the Lunar New Year festivities. Held at the Australian Chinese Community Association Hall, more than 40 participants, including carers and volunteers, attended the event.

At the meeting, founding president Julia Fry and former President Robert Yeoh were present, as were many old friends accompanied by their carers. Group Coordinator Rosanna Ng extended general well-wishes and good health to the participants for the coming New Year.

The gathering followed with a 45-minute group exercise session, supported by Rosanna's encouragement to maintain physical and mental well-being through diligent exercise. Joanne Lau, the guest of the day, led the group in singing and movement to the accompanying music, engaging all participants in the New Year celebrations.

Robert Yeoh also added to the festivities with an impromptu harmonica performance. The celebration concluded with a home-made New Year's lunch consisting of delightful pastries prepared by group participants, earning warm thanks to the cooks and volunteers for their contribution to the event's success.

During the gathering, Joanne Lau animatedly led the group in singing and movement, infusing the New Year celebrations with music. In a heartwarming moment, Robert Yeoh serenaded the participants with an impromptu harmonica performance, combining music and the spirit of the Lunar New Year with elements of health-and-wellness and fitness-and-exercise.
