Coastal Family Health Center Warns of WIC Waitlist Impact on Mississippi Families

The Coastal Family Health Center, led by CEO Angel Greer, is expressing concern about the impact of a waitlist on South Mississippi families seeking WIC services. The center offers these services at three clinics across the Gulf Coast, currently prioritizing clients based on USDA guidelines.

WIC, a federal program, provides essential support to Mississippi families by offering healthy food, breastfeeding assistance, and nutrition education. The high cost of groceries and infant formula makes this support crucial for young families.

Angel Greer has criticized Congress for allowing another shutdown, which has led to a federal budget impasse. This impasse has resulted in all new WIC applicants being placed on a waitlist. Health officials are committed to minimizing disruption during the shutdown and encourage families to check for updates.

The Coastal Family Health Center is currently certifying Priority 1 clients for WIC services. MSDH is following USDA guidelines to prioritize pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and high-risk infants. Families are advised to stay informed about any updates regarding the WIC program during the shutdown.
