Craftsman from the region experiences a stroke during his vacation in Greece
In a heartwarming display of solidarity, the local community in Brühl, Germany, has rallied around Heiko Timmermann, an all-round handyman who is currently receiving rehabilitation treatment in a clinic in Greece.
The journey began on July 1st, when Heiko suffered a stroke while on vacation in Greece. Unfortunately, he was not found until the next morning, 15 hours after his stroke. However, Heiko's resilience shone through even in this challenging situation. He was found in a serious condition, but he managed to move one arm and used it to bang against the wall to attract attention.
The news of Heiko's situation spread quickly, and a GoFundMe campaign was initiated by Torsten Lange, a friend who personally knew Heiko. The campaign, searchable by typing "Heiko Timmermann" on www.gofundme.com, has gained momentum due to Heiko's established reputation in the local area and the urgent need for funds to cover his medical expenses, accommodation costs during rehab, and potentially costly medical transport back to Germany.
The community's response has been overwhelming. In just 24 hours (21st July, 3 pm), the campaign had raised over 17,000 euros. As of now, a total of 292 people have donated to the campaign.
The funds collected will be used to cover costs not covered by European health insurance, including transport costs back to Germany. Estimated transport costs range between 12,000 and 15,000 euros. It is expected that Heiko will be transported directly to the Leezen clinic near Lake Schwerin with an accompanying doctor from Greece by the end of this week.
Despite the challenges, Heiko's spirit remains unbroken. Although he is currently unable to speak properly, he is making progress in his rehabilitation. The community's support has been a beacon of hope for Heiko during this difficult time.
