Deion Sanders Returns to Coaching Despite Recent Surgery

Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders is set to return to the sideline this Saturday, despite recent health challenges. He underwent surgery for blood clots earlier this week and is expected to lead his team against Iowa State.

Sanders, who has faced numerous health issues in recent years, had an aspiration thrombectomy on Wednesday. The procedure was performed by Dr. J. Michael Porter at the Grau Institute in Kansas City. This is the 16th surgery Sanders has undergone in the last few years, including treatments for blood clots and cancer.

Last spring, the coach bravely battled an aggressive form of bladder cancer. The cancer required the removal of his bladder and reconstruction of a section of his intestine. Before his recent surgery, Sanders received visits and calls of support from friends and family, including his son Shilo and former NFL player Adam 'Pacman' Jones.

Sanders' health issues have occasionally impacted his coaching duties. In 2023, he missed a Pac-12 media day session following procedures to remove blood clots and straighten toes. His blood clot issues date back to 2021 when he was coaching at Jackson State, leading to the amputation of two toes on his left foot.

Despite his health challenges, Sanders is determined to continue coaching the Colorado Buffaloes. His return to the sideline this Saturday is a testament to his resilience and commitment to his team.
