Evangelical Church in Merziger Offers Aid to Ukrainian Refugees

In the heart of Saarland, the Evangelical Congregation of Merzig is extending a helping hand to refugees from Ukraine. The Open Meeting Point, located at Am Gaswerk 7, offers support for integration and necessary aid.

The congregation is actively seeking volunteers to assist in various areas such as reception, shuttle service, cleaning, and the children's program on Wednesdays. If you're interested in lending a helping hand, here's how you can get involved:

1. **Contact the Evangelical Congregation of Merzig directly:** Visit their official website () or contact their local church office in Merzig. They will provide information on volunteer programs, including refugee integration efforts.

2. **Reach out to local refugee assistance organizations in Saarland:** Organisations like Caritas Saarland or Diakonie Saarland often collaborate with churches and may have specific roles or events for volunteers.

3. **Check with Saarland's regional government or refugee support offices:** They might have partnerships with the Evangelical Congregation and can guide you on how to volunteer.

4. **Look for announcements on community bulletin boards or social media:** Local churches and nonprofit organisations frequently post calls for volunteers in these channels.

For those who wish to donate, the purpose of the donations is to support the refugee aid project in Merzig's partner city Luckau an der Spree and their partners in Poland. Bank details for donations are IBAN: DE55 5935 1040 0000 2365 13 at Sparkasse Merzig-Wadern.

The shuttle service to and from the community center can be organized upon request by contacting 0170 - 6531 866. Refugees can receive advice, help, and necessary support at the Evangelical Community Center Merzig, which is now open every Wednesday from 8 am to 6 pm.

The support association "cor et manus" of the Evangelical Congregation of Merzig, along with the city of Merzig, is also collecting money donations for Ukraine. Knowledge of Ukrainian and/or Russian is not required, but interpreters are urgently needed to accompany refugees.

For more information or to register as a volunteer, contact Frank Paqué, director of the Merziger Tafel, at Mail. frank.paqué@ekir.de or Mobile: 0151 - 543 730 41. Alternatively, you can reach him by phone at 0170 6531 866.

  1. To contribute to the health-and-wellness of refugees, you can join the efforts of the Evangelical Congregation of Merzig by volunteering in fitness-and-exercise programs for children, as part of their integration support on Wednesdays.
  2. Additionally, if you have a passion for science and technology, you might be able to assist in various aspects of the refugee integration project by collaborating with local organizations, offering your skills to drive positive change.
