Five Children Hospitalized After Carbon Monoxide Leak at Almaty Bathhouse

Five youngsters, aged between 3 and 12, were rushed to hospital today after inhaling carbon monoxide at a public bath in Almaty. Their conditions are moderate but not life-threatening.

The incident occurred at a bathhouse in the city, which has now been temporarily closed. A faulty chimney was identified as the cause of the carbon monoxide leak. Initially, the children and their parents felt unwell and were unable to leave the premises. The family patriarch had to call for help, with a worker from a nearby store eventually opening the door to rescue them.

The bathhouse owner is responsible for maintaining the gas equipment. Despite a previous inspection where the owner was advised to install carbon monoxide detectors, the alarm did not activate. Police are now investigating the incident.

The bathhouse remains closed to the public while the investigation continues. The owner's responsibility in ensuring the safety of visitors is under scrutiny. The children are expected to make a full recovery.
