The Chinese aviation industry is implementing new guidelines aimed at enhancing safety and hygiene during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. These measures, published by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, outline specific rules to be followed in airports and aircraft.

One of the notable precautionary measures includes the recommendation for cabin crew to wear disposable underwear as a protective measure against coronavirus infection. This advice is intended to reduce the risk of infection and is not mandatory regarding the type of diapers to be used.

Cabin crew are also advised to wear personal protective equipment, including masks, goggles, and gloves, to further minimise the risk of infection.

Interestingly, a study has found that the coronavirus can spread in aircraft from people who are asymptomatically infected. Consequently, the new safety rules have been developed to mitigate this risk.

However, it is not clear if the recommendation for crew members to wear diapers is a standard practice in other countries.

American scientists have emphasised vaccination as a highly effective product to block the spread of the coronavirus. Vaccines, including updated COVID-19 mRNA vaccines for the 2025-2026 season, are strongly recommended by health authorities as a primary preventive measure to control COVID-19 transmission and reduce hospitalizations and death.

The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) continues to recommend routine COVID-19 vaccinations for all eligible populations, highlighting their role in disease control. Multiple professional organizations, including the American Medical Association (AMA), strongly support vaccination as the best method to protect individuals and communities from COVID-19 and related complications. Studies demonstrating the effectiveness of updated booster vaccines show reduced severe outcomes in high-risk groups such as cancer patients.

While antivirals are important for treatment post-infection, they do not primarily function to block spread, unlike vaccines and personal protective equipment. No sources specifically mention other physical products besides PPE and diapers as effective barriers to virus transmission.

It is unclear if passengers are also advised to wear diapers, and the new safety rules do not provide information on how long crew members should wear diapers. The advice comes from Almaty.tv, as reported by Lenta.ru.

  1. To maintain health and wellness in the workplace-wellness sector, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of science-backed measures, such as fitness-and-exercise routines and mental-health supportive strategies, is crucial.
  2. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advocates for vaccination as a pivotal component of health-and-wellness practices, citing vaccines as a robust approach to preventing COVID-19 transmission, reducing hospitalizations, and minimizing fatalities.
  3. Mental-health wellness in the workplace may also benefit from focusing on employee well-being and implementing medical-condition accommodations, as workplace stress can lead to a myriad of associated health issues.
