Gaza City Tensions Escalate: Israel Launches New Campaign, Hospitals Struggle

Tensions in Gaza have escalated, with Israel launching a new campaign and warning Palestinians to evacuate southern areas. Meanwhile, international journalists face restrictions, and Gaza's hospitals grapple with severe damage and shortages.

Before the latest campaign, Israel cautioned Palestinians to leave southern Gaza. The Israeli military has long restricted international journalists' access to Gaza, allowing only rare, supervised visits. The conflict has taken a heavy toll, with tens of thousands of Palestinians killed and Gaza's hospitals struggling to function. A total of 22 hospitals are now inoperable, and the remaining 14 are only partially working.

In the midst of this, a tunnel used by Hamas was discovered near an empty Jordanian hospital. The Israeli army has accused Hamas of using health facilities for military purposes, endangering civilians. A patrol through a destroyed neighborhood in Gaza City recently spotted people inside a nearby building.

The mediating states in the peace talks between Israel and Hamas are the United States, Egypt, and Qatar. The US special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is participating in negotiations, with Israel sending a delegation to Egypt. The drive into and out of Gaza is through the Netzarim corridor, a military zone filled with destroyed buildings and concrete mounds. The Israeli army has announced preparations for the first phase of US President Donald Trump's plan to end the war and rescue remaining hostages.

The situation in Gaza remains dire, with severe damage to hospitals and ongoing conflict. International access is limited, and peace talks continue with the mediation of the US, Egypt, and Qatar. Israel's accusations against Hamas and its preparations for Trump's plan add further complexity to the situation.
