Hazardous Material Discovered in Apartment Complex - Fire Department Safeguards Storage Box
In an swift and efficient operation, the Mülheim an der Ruhr Fire Department managed to safely handle a hazardous material incident on Duisburger Street on Thursday afternoon.
At around 12:04 PM, a report of a hazardous material discovery was made in a residential building on Duisburger Street. The response was initiated under the keyword "ABC release," signifying the potential danger posed by the materials involved.
Upon arrival, a firefighting team in protective gear and chemical suits entered the building's basement, where they found three containers labeled "Phosphorus." The area around the incident was immediately cordoned off, and Duisburger Street was closed in both directions between Hansastraße and Emmericher Straße for the duration of the operation.
Despite the potential risks, Chief Fire Director Sven Werner, who has led the professional fire brigade since December 1, 2019, ensured the safety of all those involved. He was responsible for the evacuation of the daycare building and maintaining safety near the container store on Duisburger Street.
The fire station's pump truck, specialized vehicles for ABC response, and the command team were all involved in the operation. The containers were carefully transferred to special containers and then handed over to a specialized company for disposal.
Throughout the operation, which lasted approximately 90 minutes, there was no risk to the public, and no one was injured. The daycare center in the building was evacuated before the operation began, ensuring the safety of the children and staff.
The operation to handle the hazardous material incident on Duisburger Street was successfully completed, marking another successful day for the Mülheim an der Ruhr Fire Department.
