Increase by 287 in the number of drunk driving accidents during Father's Day celebration in the year 2024
Excessive Alcohol-Related Traffic Accidents on Father's Day in Germany
Wiesbaden - On the national holiday of Father's Day, also known as Ascension Day, the number of alcohol-related traffic accidents surpassed that of any other day in 2024, according to preliminary results from the Federal Statistical Office. A total of 287 accidents were recorded, where alcohol was contributing factor in at least one of the parties involved.
In comparison, the average number of alcohol-related accidents per day on German roads in 2024 was approximately 95. The total number of such incidents last year was around 34,700.
Unfortunately, even though the overall number of such accidents decreased compared to the previous year, a considerable number of injuries and fatalities were reported on Father's Day 2024. Out of the 287 alcohol-related accidents, 204 resulted in injuries, 58 of which were serious. One person lost their life.
Interestingly, Father's Day has consistently shown the highest number of alcohol-related traffic accidents annually. Other days with a relatively high incidence of such accidents include New Year's Day and May Day.

- The increasingly concerning trend of alcohol-related traffic accidents, particularly on days like Father's Day, highlights the critical intersection between science (alcohol consumption) and health-and-wellness (mental health and general news).
- As the growing body of research in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health reveals, binge drinking (a destructive form of alcohol consumption) is not only a public safety issue related to crime-and-justice (traffic accidents), but also a significant factor in mental-health problems.
- Future efforts in health-and-wellness education, both at a national and local level (in Hamm), should focus on the prevention of alcohol-related incidents, emphasizing the mental-health and general-news implications of excessive alcohol consumption, and eventually leading to a safer overall society.
