Jair Bolsonaro diagnosed with skin cancer
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro faces ongoing health issues and legal battles, as reported this week.
On Tuesday, Bolsonaro was taken to a private clinic in Brasília due to health complaints. According to his son, Flavio, the former president was suffering from severe hiccups, vomiting, low blood pressure, and could not breathe for almost ten seconds before the emergency. Upon arrival, it was noted that his heart rate was elevated and his blood pressure was significantly reduced.
The clinic bulletin also revealed that Bolsonaro has been diagnosed with persistent anemia and impaired kidney function. The health consequences of the stabbing attack during the 2018 presidential campaign are ongoing, it seems.
In a positive development, the former president had skin changes removed over the weekend, as reported by his doctor, Claudio Birolini. However, the type of skin cancer detected was a squamous cell carcinoma. Birolini, a specialist in the treatment of skin cancer, is associated with Bolsonaro's treatment.
Legally, Bolsonaro is currently under house arrest since early August due to the risk of flight. Last week, he was sentenced to a long prison term for coup plotting, a verdict he describes as political persecution. His lawyers have announced an appeal against the verdict.
Moreover, the Supreme Court found Bolsonaro guilty of leading a 'criminal organization' that sought to overturn his 2022 election defeat. The former president maintains his innocence and views these accusations as part of a broader political persecution.
As Bolsonaro navigates these challenges, the nation waits with bated breath for updates on his health and legal standing.
