John Cena Disclosed Details on a Cosmetic Procedure that Allegedly Had a Significant Impact on His Life Trajectory
In an interview with People, John Cena has shared his journey of dealing with hair loss and undergoing a hair transplant last November. The WWE superstar and Hollywood actor, who is approaching retirement from wrestling, has been candid about the challenges he faces in the public eye.
Cena mentioned that he was bullied by fans about his hair loss, with signs calling him “The Bald John Cena.” This teasing pushed him to address his thinning hair, which he hid for years. The hair transplant procedure, he says, "completely changed the course" of his life, reshaping his confidence, career, and outlook on aging.
The surgery involved moving individual hair follicles from one area of his scalp to another. Cena described the process as simple, stating that doctors "don't do anything except move your hair, one by one, from one area to another." He emphasizes that maintaining his restored hair requires commitment, including red-light therapy, minoxidil (a topical medication), vitamins, shampoo, and conditioner as part of his routine.
Cena is open about the stigma surrounding hair transplants, expressing frustration that he didn't get the procedure done 10 years ago due to shame. He highlights that hair loss is very common—about seven or eight out of ten men suffer from thinning or baldness—and encourages reducing the stigma about such cosmetic procedures.
Age is also a factor in Cena's decision to retire from wrestling. He is looking forward to a "farewell" tour and making room for young, new wrestlers. His fans, he says, are the reason for his optimism, persistence, and passion throughout his career.
Cena has recurring roles in action movies like the Fast and Furious franchise and comedies like Vacation Friends 2 and Barbie. He believes that his restored hair has given him more range for acting roles.
As Cena focuses on his health and 4-year marriage to Shay Shariatzadeh, he is also open about his life-changing hair transplant experience. His interview with People can be read in full here. Cena has also revealed his cosmetic surgery procedures, adding another layer to his inspiring journey in the public eye.
