June 16 Designated as Mobile Phone Electrohypersensitivity (EHS) Day: Federal Government Encouraged to Aid Individuals Affected
Torpedoing Stereotypes: diagnose:funk Drives for Help on World Electrosensitivity Day
Groundbreaking Appeal, 13th June 2025: Dismantle Stigmas, Provide Aid to those Affected
Stuttgart, 13th June 2025: With the World Electrosensitivity Day (WED) looming on the horizon, the 16th of June 2025, diagnose:funk, an environmental and consumer advocacy group, makes a passionate plea to the federal government to dismantle stereotypes and offer aid to individuals battling Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS). A study conducted in 2004 by the German Mobile Communications Research Program estimated that 10% of the population experiences EHS, with symptoms triggered by mobile, WLAN, or Bluetooth radiation.
Take Action - Stand with the Affected
If EHS were acknowledged and treated as an environmentally induced illness, similar to Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), those affected would gain access to statutory medical care. However, the current approach by authorities often overlooks a potential connection between EHS symptoms and mobile radiation. Instead, affected individuals are commonly labeled as psychologically ill and are generally uninformed about the possible causes. Many are left to uncover the connections themselves, finding that mobile devices, WLAN routers, and cell towers might be causing their discomfort. Revealing this information to doctors and healthcare providers would be the first step towards helping those affected comprehensively.
Moreover, diagnose:funk calls the federal government's attention to the Technology Assessment Report from February 2023, which recommended the creation of mobile- and WLAN-free zones in public spaces and public transport. This move could provide protection for the affected individuals and improve their quality of life.
"Support is urgently needed," said Jörn Gutbier, chairman of diagnose:funk. "Those who suffer from EHS are often desperately searching for relief - and relief can be found in the form of safe zones, starting from public buildings, hospitals, and public transportation."
Signs from the EU and Beyond
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) recognizes Electrosensitivity (ES) as an illness in its official statement of March 2022. The Baden-Württemberg State Medical Association echoes this sentiment in its 2021 statement on mobile communications, urging the creation of mobile-free zones in public spaces.
The Higher Administrative Court of Schleswig-Holstein has even acknowledged "electromagnetic hypersensitivity" as a disease in a legal decision, a milestone for those affected.
An International Crisis
The International Commission on Biological Effects of Electromagnetic Radiation (ICBE-EMF), a consortium of highly experienced researchers, describes EHS as a human crisis necessitating urgent action.
Evidence and Insights
Scientific research offers insights into the biological mechanisms behind EHS, explaining the symptoms experienced by those affected. Further information can be found on our website diagnose:EHS.
Our report, "Does Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity Exist?," presents medical findings and the ongoing debate on the subject. The documentary film "Forced into Solitude," created by Xenja Abegg as part of her Abitur, shares the stories of Swiss EHS sufferers. The book "The Unallowed Disease" shares personal accounts of individuals and their struggles with radio waves.

diagnose:funk is a non-profit environmental and consumer organization that has been working towards mitigating the harmful effects of electromagnetic fields since 2009. Our mission: Advocate for responsible use of technology!
- In alignment with the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the Baden-Württemberg State Medical Association, diagnose:funk urges the federal government to acknowledge Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS) as an environmentally induced illness akin to Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), thereby providing access to statutory medical care for those affected.
- To improve the quality of life for millions of individuals battling EHS, diagnose:funk recommends the creation of mobile- and WLAN-free zones in public spaces and public transport, as proposed in the Technology Assessment Report from February 2023.
- In the spirit of promoting environmental health and wellness, and acknowledging the mental-health implications of Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity, diagnose:funk calls for increased collaboration between environmental-science and mental-health communities, as well as technology industries, to develop solutions that ensure the safety and wellbeing of all members of society.
