LASU Marks Nigeria's 65th Independence Day, Honours VC's Anniversary

Lagos State University (LASU) marked Nigeria's 65th Independence Day and the 4th anniversary of Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello as Vice Chancellor with a programme celebrating unity and diversity. The event, held under the theme 'Ethnic Diversity in Nigeria, Emotional Intelligence To The Rescue', was led by Prof. Mubashiru Mohammed, Director of the Centre for General Nigerian Studies (CGNS).

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olatunji-Bello, reflected on Nigeria's diverse cultures and histories, emphasizing the need for unity among its citizens. She highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence in promoting peaceful coexistence in multicultural societies. The programme showcased the rich heritage of Lagos State's five divisions and cultural representations from other states, fostering a sense of unity in diversity.

The event honoured exceptional students and past directors of the centre. Notably, the Vice Chancellor was awarded the title of Grand Commander of the CGNS in October 2023. The first GNS Day was inaugurated under the leadership of Prof. Simiat Elias, with Prof. Mohammed honouring these achievements during the programme.

LASU's celebration of Nigeria's 65th Independence Day and the Vice Chancellor's anniversary underscored the university's commitment to promoting unity, diversity, and emotional intelligence. The event recognised outstanding individuals and highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence in navigating Nigeria's pluralistic society and building lasting peace.
