Breaking News: Wide Recall of Ready-Made Meals and Side Dishes in Ireland Due to Listeria Outbreak

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a nationwide recall of various branded ready-made prepared meals and side dishes produced by Ballymaguire Foods. The recall comes following the identification of Listeria monocytogenes in these products, which has resulted in nine confirmed cases of listeriosis and one death.

The affected products include a variety of meals and side dishes, such as Tesco Finest Chicken Parmigiana, Tesco Meals Made Easy Chicken Korma, and ready-made mashed potatoes, carrots and peas, green cabbage, and pilau rice. These items were sold at major retailers in Ireland including Tesco, Aldi, Supervalu, and Centra.

The wide recall scope indicates that all pack sizes and batches with all use-by dates of the 141 different types of ready-made products were recalled. The source of contamination was identified at a Ballymaguire Foods facility, which has since ceased production and undertaken deep cleaning measures.

If you have any of these products, the FSAI advises not to consume them and to return them to the point of purchase. It is also recommended to discard any affected products and to follow safe food handling practices to prevent further contamination.

Here is a summary of the affected products:

| Ready-made Product Type | Brands/Examples | Retailers | |----------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------|---------------------------------| | Prepared meals and side dishes | Tesco Finest Chicken Parmigiana, Tesco Meals Made Easy Chicken Korma, etc. | Tesco, Aldi, Supervalu, Centra |

The FSAI urges consumers to check their purchased items against the recalled list to ensure their safety. This recall serves as a reminder to always follow safe food handling practices and to be vigilant about food safety.
