Preserve lives - following the familiar pattern

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, Munich, Germany, will host the annual "Tag der Ersten Hilfe" (Day of First Aid) from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This event, organised by Munich's Gesundheitsreferat with the support of Mayor Dieter Reiter, will take place at eight locations across the city.

The Day of First Aid is an opportunity for residents and visitors to learn and practice essential life-saving skills. Participants can participate in hands-on sessions, learning techniques such as heart compressions and using automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

One unique feature of the event is the Teddy Bear Hospital at Marienplatz, where children can engage with first aid education through play. At other locations, such as Rotkreuzplatz, Theresienhöhe, and the pep Shopping Center Neuperlach (hosted by the Munich Fire Department), attendees can practice their skills on simulation dolls.

The importance of first aid knowledge is underscored by the statistics. In Germany, over 120,000 people experience sudden cardiac arrest each year, and only 10% of these individuals survive. Many lives could be saved with the application of appropriate first aid measures.

A survey by the Red Cross found that 41% of respondents' last first aid course was 15 years ago. As with many learned skills, the longer it's been since the course, the less knowledge remains. The Day of First Aid offers a chance to refresh and update these vital skills.

In addition to the traditional first aid stations, the event will also feature locations such as Platz der Menschenrechte, Riem Arcaden (Aicher Ambulance Union), Orleansplatz (Malteser Hilfsdienst e.V.), and Thalkirchner Platz, Schäfflarnstraße (Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V.).

Finally, Munich Freedom (MKT Institute for Emergency Medicine and Disaster Relief Training in Bavaria gGmbH) will also host first aid activities during the event.

The Day of First Aid is a valuable opportunity for individuals to learn and practice life-saving skills. Whether you're a parent looking to teach your children essential first aid knowledge or simply someone who wants to refresh their own skills, this event is not to be missed.

At the Teddy Bear Hospital in Marienplatz, children can engage with first aid education through play, reinforcing the importance of health-and-wellness awareness from a young age. Furthermore, scientific advancements in first aid, such as hands-on sessions on heart compressions and AED usage, will be demonstrated across multiple event locations, emphasizing the significance of science in improving health-and-wellness practices.
