Roshydsan investigates food contamination causing children's illness at health camp in Tuapsi district

In the Kuban region, an active investigation is underway to determine the cause of a series of food poisoning incidents that have affected several campers, primarily children, in health camps located in the Tuapse district and the city of Krasnodar.

The regional Ministry of Health, sanitary-epidemiological surveillance services (Rospotrebnadzor), and local law enforcement agencies are collaborating on this joint investigation. Specialists from Rospotrebnadzor have already arrived at the scene to conduct necessary inspections, collect patient samples and food leftovers for laboratory analysis, and interview camp staff, suppliers, and potentially affected individuals.

As of the latest available information in July 2025, initial reports suggest contamination possibly linked to improper food storage or handling, but conclusive laboratory results are still pending. To prevent further cases, health camps have been temporarily closed or subjected to stricter sanitary controls.

The investigation has also extended to the surrounding area, with reports of two children being hospitalized with severe food poisoning after eating candies in Krasnodar. All affected children are receiving necessary assistance, and medical examinations have been organized in the camp for all children.

Disinfection is currently being carried out on the camp premises, and local authorities are urging parents not to panic and to monitor their children's health closely. Rospotrebnadzor has initiated an investigation into the poisoning of children in the Tuapse district of Kuban, and norovirus was found during the inspection of the camp premises.

Authorities promise to provide full information on the progress and results of the investigation in the near future. Legal proceedings or administrative actions may follow if negligence or violations are confirmed. The public is advised to follow updates from official regional health departments for safety recommendations.

Scientists and medical professionals are now focusing on the connection between the food poisoning incidents and the storage or handling of foods in the health camps, as improper practices could have led to contamination. To ensure the safety and wellness of all individuals, health camps are implementing stricter health and sanitation measures and conducting medical examinations for all campers.
