Seeking transportation

In the small town of Bispingen, a woman named Helga Kallweit finds herself in a challenging situation. Due to the ongoing Corona pandemic, plans to establish a town bus service have come to a standstill, leaving Helga without a reliable means of transportation to visit her husband.

Helga's husband is currently residing in the Seniorenzentrum Wiesentrift in Schneverdingen, a department specifically designed for people with dementia. The distance between town and Schneverdingen, though not vast, becomes a significant barrier for Helga, as taxi rides cost a hefty 90 euros each way.

Helga has already depleted her savings, having spent 1500 euros on taxi rides to visit her husband. To find a more affordable solution, she has put up notices on bulletin boards in the local supermarket seeking carpooling options in the town, but so far, she has not received any responses.

In an effort to help, Renate Meyer has been supporting Helga in organising trips to Schneverdingen. However, a regular, weekly ride that would ideally occur between 10 am and 6 pm, remains elusive in the town.

In the meantime, Helga keeps herself informed about local news through the Heidekreis newsletter. Delivered straight to her inbox, the newsletter presents carefully selected articles of the week, without information overload. It keeps her updated with local highlights and serves as a comforting connection to her town community.

The Böhme Newspaper has agreed to facilitate contact for the requested ride. If you are able to offer a ride from town center to Schneverdingen near the Senior Center Wiesentrift, or if you know someone who can, please contact redaktion@ourwebsite.

Despite the challenges, Helga remains hopeful. She misses her husband dearly and finds it difficult when he becomes restless and aggressive upon her departure from the Wiesentrift. The establishment of a town bus service would not only help Helga, but also many others in the community who find themselves in similar situations in the town.

Until then, Helga continues her search, relying on the support of her town community and the updates from the Heidekreis newsletter.
