In the heart of winter, the Almaty region is witnessing an increase in sledding accidents on unauthorized hills, raising concerns about safety and the need for designated areas.

A dedicated individual at Almaty Arena ensures children and adults don't collide at the authorized sledding hill, which is regularly cleaned and maintained. However, the demand for unauthorized sledding hills is high due to their free access. Unfortunately, this lack of regulation has led to a series of unfortunate incidents.

Recent tragedies include a woman in the Karaganda region breaking her spine while sledding on an unauthorized hill, a girl from Petropavlovsk still in a coma after a severe impact, and a 10-year-old girl from the Almaty region who sadly lost her life in a sledding accident on an unauthorized hill.

These incidents have not gone unnoticed. Jadyra Erezhepova, Chairperson of the Local Self-Government Committee of the Alatau District, noted last year's incidents on unauthorized sledding hills, including broken arms, legs, and bruises. Yerlan Zhidebaev, the safety engineer, also emphasized the need for safe sledding hills, stating that there are only three authorized sledding hills in the city, and there is a high demand for them.

To mitigate such risks, common safety measures include establishing designated sledding areas, implementing safety signage and barriers, promoting public awareness campaigns about safe sledding practices, and enforcing regulations that limit sledding to approved locations with staff or rescue services.

Local akimats urge people to sled only in designated areas, but the allure of unauthorized hills remains strong. Ekaterina Tsymbal, a resident of Alatau District, expressed preference for sledding on the authorized hills due to the even and prepared surface.

As the winter season continues, it is crucial for the Almaty region to address the increase in accidents on unauthorized sledding hills and implement measures to ensure the safety of its residents and visitors. Local authorities typically aim to balance recreational access with safety through designated winter parks or hills, but specific updates on such initiatives would require local government or news sources for precise details.

For the latest information on official sledding zones or safety campaigns in Almaty, checking local municipal announcements, regional tourism boards, or emergency services reports would be advisable. Stay safe and enjoy the winter season responsibly.

The rise in sledding accidents on unauthorized hills, as seen in the tragic events in Karaganda, Petropavlovsk, and Almaty, emphasizes the need for increased safety measures in health-and-wellness and general-news discussions. To promote safety and reduce accidents, it's important to advocate for designated, regulated, and well-maintained sledding areas, similar to the focused efforts of Jadyra Erezhepova and Yerlan Zhidebaev in addressing this issue within the Almaty region.
