Sudbury unveils the specified employers for the RCIP and FCIP permanent residency avenues
Greater Sudbury Welcomes Immigrants Through Rural and Francophone Community Immigration Pilots
Greater Sudbury, an Ontario city, has joined the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot (FCIP) to address labour shortages and support the growth of its communities.
The RCIP, launched earlier this year, aims to help employers in select rural communities in Canada fill labour gaps. Greater Sudbury has been allotted 525 nomination slots for the RCIP and 45 slots for the FCIP in 2025.
In the RCIP, several employers in Greater Sudbury have been designated across various sectors. These include the Trades & Transport sector with employers like Gardewine, Viacore Solutions Inc., Dominion Construction, Sudbury Service Center, 772289 Ontario Limited - Northern Nissan, R.M. Belanger Limited - Belanger Construction, and Barne Building and Construction Inc.
The Education, Social, Community & Government Services sector also has multiple designated employers, such as the Canadian Mental Health Association - Sudbury/Manitoulin, Sudbury First Nations Church, YMCA of Northeastern Ontario, Our Children, Our Future - Family Resources, City of Greater Sudbury, and Northern Youth Services.
Additionally, the health sector has several designated employers, including Autumnwood Mature Lifestyle Communities Inc., Sudbury Dental Clinic, Sudbury Hyperbarics and Wound Care, Northwood Medical Clinics Inc., and Rehoboth Family Care.
For the FCIP, a foreign national must receive a job offer from a designated employer in a participating Francophone community, within that community's list of priority occupations. Le Club Amical du Nouveau Sudbury is one such designated employer in Greater Sudbury.
To be eligible for either pilot, foreign nationals need to meet additional criteria, including demonstrating related work experience, meeting language proficiency requirements, meeting educational credential requirements, and demonstrating sufficient funds to support the settlement process. Candidates who meet all the criteria and receive a valid certificate of recommendation from the community can directly apply to the federal government for permanent residence.
As of publishing, no designated employers have been listed under the priority sectors of Natural Applied Sciences, Natural Resources, and Agriculture for the RCIP, or under the health sector for the FCIP. Similarly, specific companies in these sectors in Greater Sudbury that are not listed among the RCIP-designated employers are not publicly available.
The FCIP, launched concurrently with the RCIP, aims to support the growth of Francophone communities outside Quebec. It has two designated employers in the business, finance, and administration sector: Highland Bookkeeping and Tax Prep, and Scotiabank. Another priority sector listed by Greater Sudbury's FCIP is Arts, Culture, Recreation and Sport, but no designated employer has been listed under this sector at time of publishing.
In addition to these designated employers, Warden Store Inc / Elgin Street Pharmacy, Home Instead / Wirta Home Care Ltd., Garderie Touche à tout de Sudbury, and Magic Triangle have also been designated employers for the RCIP in Greater Sudbury.
These initiatives offer a unique opportunity for foreign nationals to apply for Canadian permanent residency if they have a community-endorsed job offer from a designated employer in Greater Sudbury.
