Supplement containing 84p claimed to eliminate cancer-inducing microplastics unveiled

Feeling concerned about those pesky "forever chemicals" in your body? Fret not, as a cost-effective oats supplement could be the answer! According to US scientists, these toxic substances — polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)— found in everyday items like non-stick pans, food wrappers, plastic containers, and even stain-proof carpets, can build up in your system and lead to nasty health issues such as cancer, infertility, liver damage, and hormone disruptions.

But, fear not! A recent study by researchers at Boston University suggests that a straightforward dietary fiber supplement might just be the key to reducing those dangerous PFAS levels in your blood. In their trial, 42 men were given 1g of oat beta-glucan fiber daily for four weeks, while another 30 took a rice placebo. The trial showed an 8% drop in two of the most dangerous PFAS types, PFOA and PFOS, in the fiber group after a month.

It's believed that the fiber works by binding to bile in your gut, which PFAS latches onto, and then helping excrete it all out in your… well, you get the picture! The study, published in the journal Environmental Health, is the first real evidence that something as simple as oat fiber could help eliminate chemicals once thought to persist in the body for decades.

However, remember, PFAS take years to break down, so longer-term studies are needed to confirm the long-term effectiveness of the fiber. And, some fibers are not created equal. The researchers point out that only beta-glucan is the key type used in their trials, with previous research showing that it can also support heart health and lower cholesterol.

While more than 90% of UK adults don't eat enough fiber[3], oat beta-glucan supplements are available from health shops and online. You'll need around 3g per day to match the study dose. And, at just 84p per dose, you can give it a try without breaking the bank!

  1. In the realm of health-and-wellness, a cost-effective oats supplement might serve as a potential solution for reducing harmful PFAS levels in one's body, as suggested by a study in the field of science.
  2. The therapies-and-treatments being researched include dietary fiber supplements, such as oat beta-glucan, which, when consumed daily, could help manage medical-conditions associated with PFAS buildup, including cancer, infertility, liver damage, and hormone disruptions.
  3. Interestingly, nutrition plays a crucial role in the elimination of PFAS, with specific types of fiber, like beta-glucan, binding to these chemicals and aiding in their excretion, as discovered by US scientists.
