Thousands of doses of smallpox vaccine are being prepared
As of Monday, May 5, 2025, the government procurement portal is on the hunt for a supplier of a hefty dose of whooping cough vaccines. According to the documentation, it's about purchasing approximately 3,000 doses, with a deadline of December 15, 2025.
It's worth noting that the requested quantity isn't the biggest in recent years. For instance, around 8,000 doses were being procured back in 2022. This was preceded by a significant surge in whooping cough cases in the region. Official statistics reported 8,791 cases between January and July (+92% compared to the previous year). By the end of 2023, the number of reported cases had increased, reaching more than 10,000.
As a reminder, the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) defines whooping cough as "an acute viral infectious disease characterized by the appearance of poly-morphic maculo-papulo-vesicular rash on the skin and mucous membranes, with moderate fever and symptoms of general intoxication."
