The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has revised the guidelines for the recovered status, reducing the validity of a recovery certificate from 180 days to 90 days without complications. This change, effective as of January 15, 2022, is part of Germany’s evolving COVID-19 policy to tighten access restrictions under the 2G rules.

Under the 2G rules, access is only granted to vaccinated or recovered individuals. With the shortened recovery period, individuals who recover from COVID-19 would need to get vaccinated sooner to maintain 2G access privileges.

In the district of Rhein-Kreis Neuss, the 7-day incidence value, as reported by the RKI, stands at 302.0 (up from the previous day's 283.8). Among the currently infected individuals, the Omikron variant has been detected in 784 cases, and the Delta variant in 183 cases. Currently, 16 persons are in a hospital due to their coronavirus infection, with 6 of them being vaccinated.

For those seeking more information, the district health department of Rhein-Kreis Neuss has a telephone number for important questions: 02181/601-7777.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 35,038 coronavirus infections have been confirmed in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss. As of January 16, 2022, 2,937 persons have tested positive for a coronavirus infection in the district. It's important to note that none of the hospitalized persons in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss have received a booster shot.

This policy change by the RKI reflects Germany's ongoing efforts to adapt the length of immunity recognition to reflect emerging evidence on infection-induced immunity waning more quickly against new variants. The implementation of a 90-day recovered validity from early 2022 is a recognized and reported fact in the context of Germany’s pandemic response.
