Two instances of suicide reported in Sharjah prompt Indian Administrative Service (IAS) to implement assistance program for Indian expatriates
New Initiative Launched to Support Indian Expatriates in Sharjah
In response to the tragic deaths of two women from Kerala due to alleged domestic violence and marital pressures, the Indian Association Sharjah (IAS) has launched a community support initiative called R.I.S.E. (Reach, Inspire, Support, and Empower) on August 2, 2020.
The R.I.S.E. initiative aims to provide a platform for professional counselling, legal, and financial guidance to those in need, with the goal of extending a hand to those who feel alone and sharing stories of hope, healing, and recovery. The initiative is in coordination with the Sharjah Police's Community Preventive and Protection Department and the Consulate General of India, Dubai.
The weekly sessions, held every Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm, will be held at the IAS premises and will be led by a dedicated panel of community leaders, professional counsellors, and subject experts. The sessions will provide structured guidance, confidential counselling, and a robust support system to individuals in need.
The sessions aim to address and resolve family-related conflicts in a constructive and amicable manner, creating a culturally sensitive space where individuals can seek help before situations escalate. The initiative is open to expat families dealing with sensitive domestic conflicts and encourages early-stage conflict resolution and community awareness.
Individuals in need may contact the IAS via email at [email protected] or call the IAS office at 06-5610845.
By focusing on early intervention, the R.I.S.E. initiative seeks to prevent conflicts from reaching crisis levels and promote mental well-being and social stability among the Indian community in Sharjah. It is part of IAS’s broader effort to enhance the socio-economic and psychological conditions of Indian expatriates by addressing critical gaps in social support systems.

In line with the R.I.S.E. initiative's aim to promote mental health and wellness, weekly sessions will focus on providing structured guidance and confidential counselling for expat families dealing with sensitive domestic conflicts.
