Update provided on the alarming blaze at Martinez Refinery: Fire Department's latest report details the ongoing incident.

Martinez, California: The fire at the Martinez Refining Company (MRC) has been successfully contained as of Sunday morning. MRC and mutual aid firefighters are currently managing the aftermath on-site. Although the immediate threat has been subdued, Contra Costa Health (CCH) has issued a public health advisory for Martinez, certain parts of Pacheco, and Clyde. Residents, specifically those with respiratory sensitivities, are advised to stay indoors until the advisory is lifted.

Although air quality has improved enough for the Community Warning System sirens to cease, officials will reassess the situation and advisory requirements by Sunday morning. Six individuals were evaluated by medical personnel but have since been released.

MRC has established a dedicated claims line for community concerns related to the incident. Residents can call 800-542-7113 to provide details about their issues. The refinery has expressed regret for the inconvenience and worry caused by the incident.

Additionally, residents are encouraged to sign up for the free 925 News newsletter to stay informed about the evolving situation.

Air quality advisories issued in early May due to the refinery fire smoke have not shown significant impact in Martinez, as reported by the Contra Costa Health Hazmat on the same day. The current concern revolves around heat and ground-level ozone pollution. A Spare the Air Alert and a heat advisory are currently in effect, urging sensitive groups to restrict outdoor activities during peak heat periods to mitigate potential health risks.

Residents are advised to follow guidance for reducing heat stress and ozone exposure, particularly individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
