Worker severely hurt after being pulled into waste trunk by truck
In two separate incidents, one in the Saxon town of Falkenstein and the other in Hamm, safety concerns have been brought to the forefront. The accident in Falkenstein, involving a 23-year-old worker who sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries while disposing of a trash can, has underscored the importance of safety measures in operating trash compactor vehicles. In Falkenstein, the disposal vehicle driver saw the accident on a camera in the cab and promptly pressed the emergency button, stopping the loading process and deactivating the trash compactor. Emergency services, including firefighters, were called to free the worker who had been caught in a loop while attempting to hang the can for unloading. The incident is currently under investigation.
The Zwickau police headquarters provided information about the incident, emphasising the need for safety measures in waste disposal facilities. In Hamm, a separate issue is causing frustration among residents - an e-recipe blockade. Despite this, the city library remains temporarily closed due to unrelated reasons. The city aims to open a new substitution practice by 2025, which is not connected to the incident in Falkenstein.
To ensure safety in waste disposal facilities, regular inspections, proper loading and unloading procedures, strict safety protocols, traffic management, pedestrian safety, and emergency response planning are crucial. Facilities must also comply with local regulations regarding vehicle width, load size, and safety equipment on vehicles.
