Young People Drive Global Health Change with Innovation and Equity

The global health stage is witnessing a remarkable shift, with young people taking centre stage and driving change. Their influence is undeniable, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic where they led or co-led 73% of community initiatives worldwide. With 1.2 billion young people globally, their vision and actions are shaping the future of health care.

This generation is not afraid to innovate, embracing technologies like AI, 3D bioprinting, and virtual reality to transform healthcare. Across Africa, more than half of digital health start-ups are co-founded by young innovators under 30, demonstrating their commitment to progress. They believe in promoting equity and respecting human rights, refusing to recognise limits in their thinking and embracing diversity and inclusion.

Organisations like the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA) provide platforms for these young leaders to engage in global health initiatives. Over 60% of youth are involved in volunteering activities related to health, education, or community development, indicating a strong commitment to making a difference.

The rise of young leaders in global health is not just a trend, but a powerful force shaping the future. With their innovative spirit, commitment to equity, and refusal to accept limitations, they are driving progress and ensuring that the future of healthcare is in capable, passionate hands.
