Zoo in China reimburses annual pass for girl with cancer, donates $1,700 from donation box, and relocates numerous individuals in response.
In the heart of eastern China lies the Nantong Forest Safari Park, home to nearly 20,000 wild animals and a beacon of compassion for a two-year-old girl named Xiaoran from Jiangsu province.
Xiaoran, who had visited the park frequently, making five trips in just two months, was diagnosed with a rare, high-risk muscle cancer in mid-June. The expensive treatment for her cancer has become a financial burden on her family.
Seeking relief, Xiaoran's mother, Huang, reached out to the Nantong Forest Safari Park for a refund on Xiaoran's annual pass, which cost 588 yuan (US$80). The park, showing empathy and understanding, agreed to refund the fee for Xiaoran's annual pass and offered free future visits once she recovers.
But the park's support didn't stop there. They collected 12,083 yuan (about US$1,682) in coins from their wishing well and supplemented this with a separate cash donation of 50,000 yuan, providing substantial financial aid to Xiaoran’s family during her treatment.
The Nantong Forest Safari Park's response combines both practical financial relief and emotional support, demonstrating community solidarity toward a young cancer patient and her family. Xiaoran was allowed to retain her pass privileges at the park, and the park even invited her to visit for free once she recovers.
The cancer is common in children and has a high recurrence risk. Despite the challenges, the Nantong Forest Safari Park stands as a shining example of kindness and support in difficult times.
